First recommendations of the International Steering Committee for Deinstitutionalization in Slovenia
The International Steering Committee (ISC) has been established to support the implementation of the Strategy of the Republic of Slovenia for Deinstitutionalization (StaDI 2024–2034). The group consists of international and domestic experts (Jan Pfeiffer, Nic Crosby, Sam Smith, Dragica Fojan, Emir Okanović and Matej Vinko), who strive for a high-quality transformation of institutional care into community-based support and respect for the human rights of people with disabilities.
One of the tasks of the ISC is to prepare guidelines and recommendations for a better implementation of deinstitutionalization in Slovenia based on study visits.
The first study visit to Slovenia was carried out by members of the ISC this March (24–28 March 2025).
